Summer School

At EIS, Summer School may be recommended or required for individual school students with failing grades or a poor academic performance.

Summer School is held on EIS during the end of year summer vacation. Dates will be advised towards the end of Semester 2.

If recommended, Summer School is not a requirement to move to the next grade level. However, if Summer School is required, a passing Grade is a condition to move forward to the next grade level.

Criteria for Failing/Passing a Course
Middle School

  • Students who receive an F as final grade in one or two of the core subjects (English, Math, Science, Social studies) will not be allowed to be promoted to the next Grade Level without successfully completing a Summer School Course in those subjects.
  • Students who receive an F in more than two core subjects will not be able to be promoted to the next Grade Level, regardless of Summer School Course.
  • Students who receive an F as a final grade in an elective course have the option of completing a summer school course (if offered) or re-taking an exam in this subject.

High School

  • Students who receive a C- or Below as final grade in one or two of the core subjects(English, Math, Science, Social studies) will not be allowed to be promoted to the next Grade Level without successfully completing a Summer School Course in those subjects.
  • Students who receive a C- or Below in more than two core subjects will not be able to be promoted to the next Grade Level, regardless of Summer School Course.
  • Students who receive an F as a final grade in an elective course have the option of completing a summer school course (if offered) or re-taking an exam in this subject.

Repeating the Grade
At the end of the academic year, if a student fails 3 or more yearlong core subject courses (Math, English, Science and Social Studies), she or he is required to repeat the current grade. Although recommended, attending Summer School will not allow a student to move on to the next grade level unless required. The final decision regarding a student's grade will be made by the Stage Principal and/or Stage Supervisor and then the Director.
